Full Term!

Well we made it to full term finally! They say at this point if he comes he should be ok :) That is good news because he might be coming sooner than expected! When I went in to the doctors a few weeks ago, they did an ultrasound to measure his weigh and check his position. He was only 5 lbs at the time when he should should have been more like 6-61/2 lbs. I was nervous as to why he was so small, but the doctor reassured me that is was probably just genetics. He did say that he would rather have him here around 38 weeks so I can start plumping him up on my own. The ultrasound also showed that he was still breached, and my doctor wanted to go ahead and try to flip him doing an external cephalic version, or version for short. We scheduled it for Wednesday so Austin could be there to support me.

When we arrived at the hospital Wednesday, I told the nurse I was there for the version. She was so smiley and just kept saying how cute I looked, and that soon I would have a little baby to take home with me. I was a little confused at her remarks, but soon realized the hospital thought that I was having a C-section that night if they couldn't flip him the first time. I sort of panicked because my doctor hadn't told me anything about a C-section, and I was definitely not prepared to have a baby that night! Luckily it was all a big misunderstanding. Still that sent my nerves through the roof, and I was starting to question whither I should be doing this or not. Austin really helped calm me down, and told me to just listen to my heart and do what I thought was best for me and the baby. I knew I needed to at least try the version, so we proceeded to get all ready. They got me all hooked up, and noticed that I was having a lot of big contractions. The nurse was so surprised that I wasn't affected by them. I mean I could feel my stomach tightening up every now and then, but they weren't painful. She decided to check me before the doctor came, and to our surprise I was already 3/4 cm dilated and 80% effaced. I was a little surprised seeing as two days before I was only a 1! The nurse was all excited that I might be having this baby tonight! Again I started to panic a little because again I was not prepared for this! After giving me a shot to relax my uterus, the doctor came to do the version. He did an ultrasound to check where Paxton's head and butt were, and then proceeded to push on my stomach to get his cute little butt out of my pelvic area. All the sudden I could feel him moving around and then the doctor said, ok it's done! I was shocked at how fast and painless it went! I had heard so many bad stories, and got myself so worked up that I was so surprised at the whole process. The doctor and nurses all said it was probably one of the fastest, and easiest versions they had ever done so I was felt extremely lucky! The kept me for another hour just to monitor things, and checked me one more time to make sure I wasn't dilated even more. I wasn't so they sent us packing.

I now have doctor appointments and ultrasounds twice a week to keep a close eye on our little guy. I am so glad he flipped, and can't believe we are so close to meeting him! I really have been so blessed throughout this pregnancy, and can finally see the finish line in sight! Hopefully the next time I blog it will be about meeting our little boy :D

Celebrate Good Times!

Last Wednesday was a big day around the Horrocks home... Austin got his USMLE board scores back! After spending months and months preparing for this test, I just really wanted his score to reflect all his hard work these past two years. We were both freaking out a little bit when he went to check his score because Austin didn't feel that confident after leaving his test. Well to our great surprise, Austin rocked his test!! He scored in the 95th percentile which is huge! It was a big accomplishment, and there were many tears shed. Luckily Austin had the day off, so that night we went out to celebrate the way doctors do. My parents wanted us to go big so they helped out a little :) With that we were off to one of our favorite restaurants... Eddy V's!! We even invited our good friends the Finns to come along for the fun.
The infamous banana foster dessert. We always joke that my dad would kill for this dessert because it is that good, and his all time favorite :)
Dr. Horrocks!
All of us left the restaurant with happy bellies, and extremely happy hearts. Austin and I honestly feel so blessed for how well he did. We know that there were a lot of prayers, fasting, family support and most of all support from our Heavenly Father that got us to the place we are today. I am excited to see where Austin goes because I know he has so much potential, and so much in store for him. He is reaching his goals, achieving his dreams, and I couldn't be more happy for him!!

Break Time

This past week Austin and I were able to enjoy a short break before Austin started his 3rd year rotations. We were a little bummed that we weren't able to drive to Utah as we had originally planned, but we still tried to make the best of it while hanging out around the Phoenix area.

On Monday we celebrated Austin's 26th birthday!! Since Austin is done living in basketball shorts, it was time to go out and buy him some real doctor clothes. We went all over looking for dress shirts, ties, and pants to make him look more like a doctor :) We found some good stuff, and that night as we were looking at all his new clothes I couldn't help but laugh at the fact that his closet is starting to look more like my dad's closet. We call my dad's dress shirts the "crispies" because of how starched they are, so now Austin has his own set of "crispies".
For dinner all Austin wanted was a steak, but he didn't want to pay the price for an expensive steakhouse. Austin finally decided on Cheesecake Factory for his birthday dinner. Little did we know, we would end up spending just as much there as we would have at a steakhouse. Still, Austin throughly enjoyed his birthday dinner by demolished his steak and even getting his favorite red velvet cheesecake to top it all off with.
This was the only picture I could get of the birthday boy!
Austin was a little selfish on his birthday and told me I wasn't allowed to share with him, so I had to get my own cheesecake haha that's ok because key lime was the perfect choice for the summertime :)
Tuesday we drove down to Mesa for a trip to the temple. We figured we better go one last time before this baby comes. As we were doing sealing, it was really special to think that this baby will be sealed to us forever. After the temple, we made a trip to Ikea to get some things to organize little Paxton's room.
I really wanted to take advantage of Austin's help in getting Paxton's room together before he got busy again. It took us a few days trying to clean out our junk closet, and turn an office/spare bedroom into a baby room. We did get crib all set up, and finally got all his things out of boxes and bags, and into designated spaces. We still have a few project left before I will take pictures of the finished room!
Wednesday was of course the 4th of July! We got a big surprise here in Arizona with lots of rain! It cooled things down quite nicely so we were actually able to enjoy the 4th.
The Simpsons were nice enough to invite us to a Diamondbacks game that night. Even though we aren't huge baseball fans, we still love going to the games just to enjoy the atmosphere. Plus Arizona was smart enough to build an indoor baseball field so you can enjoy the game with the comfort of A/C!
I couldn't help but laugh at the fact that they also have a pool suite at their stadium! For a nice $5,500 you and 35 of our closest friends could enjoy the game while swimming in style haha
Unfortunately the D-backs lost, but afterwards they opened up the roof and shot off some fireworks across the street. What is more American than a baseball game and fireworks?!
The rest of the break was spent shopping, hanging out at the pool, going out to eat, and just enjoying the time off together. With only a few weeks left till the baby comes, it was nice to have some Austin & Jackie time :D

34 Weeks!

We've made it to 34 weeks, and I can't believe how big my belly looks in this picture! It has been so nice having Austin around to hang out with, and have his help get baby things together. We were able to go buy a crib last week and put it up Saturday! Things are getting real! Sometimes during the day it will all the sudden hit me that we are really having a baby in a few short weeks, and that our lives are about to change forever... but in a good way of course :) Unfortunately I think he is still breached, and I am out of ideas on how to flip him. I've tried propping my hips up on pillows, crawling around, swimming, handstands and summersaults in the pool but nothing seems to flip this little stinker! We go to the doctor on Friday, and hopefully he will do an ultrasound so we can know for sure his position. Until then we plan on trying to enjoy Austin's time off this week, and even celebrating his birthday today!! :D Hooray!
