Trying to be domestic...

Since Austin started medical school I have had a lot of time on my hands. With no job and basically no husband you have to find things to preoccupy your time or you will go crazy! For me I decided I wanted to become more domestic. I stalk these blogs and read about these women who do can do it all so I figured, I have all the time in the world, why can't I be one of those women too? Come to find... it is a lot harder than it looks.

For instance, after searching many different blogs for some new recipes to add to the mix I found a recipe for homemade cinnamon rolls. I knew how much Austin loves cinnamon rolls and wanted to try something different so Friday night I set out to make cinnamon rolls from scratch. Let me just tell you, it was a lot harder and messier than I anticipated. I have never made my own bread or my own rolls so having to do things like kneed dough, let it rise, and buy a rolling pin just to roll out the dough were new to me. I was so scared that I would spend my entire night trying to make these things only to find they turned out like crap. Luckily they actually turned out pretty good but to be honest, I will probably never make homemade cinnamon rolls again (ok maybe I will but not in the near future...)  haha But hey, at least I tired!

That was just one of the many things I have on my list of things to try. Here are a few others...

I want to try making my own pillows which means I need a sewing machine first...
This girl made these rose balls/wreaths out of streamers! Who wouldn't want to try this?
Instead of a "To-Do" board I want try making a menu board

And don't even get me started on crafty things to do for the holidays coming up...

I just don't know where these people come up with these things but I am obsessed! One of these days I will try them all and become a truly domestic and crafty woman! :D

It's Official!!

I am a BYU graduate!!! I got my official diploma today :D Woo hoo! Three years of hard work for a piece of paper haha but it's the best piece of paper ever! It still seems surreal that I am done with school. Forever. It just doesn't seem right... that has been my life for the past 16 years but now it's over!

So now I am even with Austin... but not for long... in a few years he will have one up on me :) But still yay for us being BYU graduates!! We did it :D

Scrubs!

Ok so I just had to post a picture of Austin in his scrubs.

You aren't an official doctor until you wear scrubs and he looks so legit with the scrub bottom and Midwestern top. I know I'm the cheese-ball wife who annoys my husband with tons of pictures but I just had to document the exciting event! And while I am on the topic of Austin, I just wanted to brag about my husband and the fact that he aced his biochem test yesterday! That's right, he got a perfect 100 on his test! No bonus questions, no nothing. He is rocking medical school and I am just the proud wife :D So anyway just had to share my excitement!

1 month (plus a few days) update!

Man I've fallen behind on my blogging! I don't know why.. it's not like I have a job or a kid to keep me busy haha

So Austin and I are still loving Arizona! Now that Austin has been in school for a month and I've made some good friends it feels more like a home. It has started to cool down believe it or not (cool down as in high 90's low 100's) but in all honesty you really can tell a difference! Austin is absolutely destroying medical school. I feel like I tell him every day how proud I am but it's because I really am! He is working hard, rocking his tests and still making time for me (which I really really appreciate). It has been a change for us not spending all day, every day together but we just continue to remind ourselves that is a sacrifice we needed to make. I am still looking for a job... and since I don't have one yet I have to find ways to preoccupy my time. My newest endeavor is digital scrapbooking! Some of my friends down here do it and the more I looked into it the more I liked the idea. It's a lot cheaper and less messy than real scrapbooking so I am starting from my freshman year at BYU and hopefully one of these days I will get all caught up.

Here are just a couple of the pages I started this week. They are nowhere near as detailed and elaborate as others but it's kind of expensive to start from scratch so for now I am making due with what I have :D

That's it for now! Just living life one day at a time :) I will try to update more about us and less about my crafts and projects haha but sometimes you just have to show off your hard work!

Short Hair!

I did it! I cut off all my hair! After I got married I swore I wouldn't be one of those girls who cut off all their hair cause I felt like everyone did that. Plus I had worked so hard to get my hair all grown out but thanks to the Arizona heat I just couldn't take it anymore. My hair was so thick and long I was dying.

So this is the look I was going for...

And this is what I got. It felt soooo short and I was kind of freaked out at first but the more I looked at it in the mirror the more I fell in love! I am so happy with my new hair cut and it is much much cooler :D

Crafty

So since moving down here to Arizona I have realized the friends I've made are really crafty and I'm not... Coming to this realization made me want to become more crafty! Since I still don't have a job, being able to do different crafts not only gives me a sense of accomplishment but also makes my day less monotonous haha so I figured I would share a few of the things I have done these past few days.

I had a frame I really liked but unfortunately it did not match my living room so I figured, why not paint it instead of buying a new one! I picked up some craft paint at the store and got to work.

Here is what it looked like before...

and here is how it looks now!

Cute hu? I thought so :D This is another craft I did with some of the girls at our weekly get togethers.

I was so nervous making this necklace since it involved a sewing machine but I was actually surprised at how well it turned out!

So anyways just thought I'd share some things I have done with my time in Arizona.

Hello Texas!

Dang it's been a long time since I've blogged!  Well since I last blogged, Austin spends his days at school and studying the day away while I hang out with some of my new friends and keep my eyes posted for a job. One Saturday while I was talking with my mom and she brought up the idea of coming home for a few days! I didn't take it seriously until I talked to Austin who really encouraged me to get out of the 84 degree apartment and go visit my family. I felt ok leaving Austin seeing as I knew he would spend his time studying while I was gone. Well after working things out with my dad, I had a flight booked home for Thursday.

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to get away from the heat but I have enjoyed being home and chillin with the fam.  Friday we spent the day watching Lexi play in a volleyball tournament. This being her senior year (crazy I know!) It was fun getting to see her play. In case you were wondering she is #7

That night my dad took us out to a super nice restaurant called Eddy V's. Now I'm not a huge fan of fish, I basically only like salmon and shrimp but this place was beyond amazing. It is my parents absolute favorite restaurant and I can see why! As we were leaving we overheard our waiter telling another table that they are based out of Scottsdale, AZ. I'm thinking I found a place for Austin and I to celebrate our 1st anniversary :D
This was the banana foster cake my dad couldn't stop talking about. I must admit it was pretty amazing...

Jessica had really been wanting to die her hair so after dinner Lexi and I took on the responsibility of giving Jessica her first hair die! She was pretty excited. We didn't want to pick a color too extreme for fear of giving my mom a heart attack but I think it turned out great :D

Saturday was again spent watching Lexi at her volleyball tournament. Her team actually made it to the finals and ended up taking 2nd place!

So that has been the trip so far. I am here until Tuesday and then it's back to my husband (whom I miss!) and back to searching for a job... but while being home I've found sooo many cute decorations! I told Austin I came out with one half empty suitcase and I'm going to come back with two! haha Yay for trips home to Texas!!
