Celebration of Love

It's funny how much Valentine's Day has changed now that we are married. Austin and I were laughing at the fact that when you are in high school, it is a huge deal what your boyfriend/girlfriend gets you for Valentine's Day, and they better give it to you at school so you can flaunt your love to everyone else. But now that we are actually with the person we love the most, Valentine's Day isn't the huge production it use to be, but rather is just another day to say I love you.

This year Austin told me a couple weeks in advance that we probably won't be celebrating on the actual day because he had a test the next morning, so instead we made Wednesday our Valentine's Day. I decided to make Austin breakfast to start off the day right :) I found a copycat Kneader's french toast recipe online and gave it a try.
That afternoon Austin was meeting with a doctor in Scottsdale, so I tagged along and waited for him to get done. When he was finished, we headed over to Cheesecake Factory! Dinner was awesome and the red velvet cheesecake we got is probably our new favorite dessert!! It was sooo good :) The only part that wasn't awesome was that the waiter threw away half of my dinner instead of boxing it up. He felt so bad that he offered to make me another one to take home. Even though I felt like the biggest cheapskate in the world, I said yes haha. It was a fun night out just spending time with the guy I love most!
Have some whip cream Austin! haha

Another week down

This picture should really say 13 & 1/2 weeks cause I will be 14 weeks Sunday. We are finally into the second trimester :) I was reading in one of my pregnancy books that said as you head into the second trimester, you might feel excited, relief, and anxiety all in one. Well I am defiantly feeling all of those things! Excited to be that much closer to meeting our little one, relief that we are out of the first trimester and out of that danger zone, and a small dose of anxiety that this is actually happening to us! I am starting to feel a lot better though being out of the first trimester. The only symptom I seem to still be holding on to is that dang exhaustion. I have also noticed that a new symptom is creeping in, a heightened sense of smell. I came home the other day, and wanted to throw up when I walked in the door. Austin had unfortunately made hard boiled eggs that day haha. Then last Sunday as I was sitting at church, someone around us was wearing some very potent perfume. Needless to say I was having a hard time breathing during Sacrament meeting haha.

Last week we were able to go to another doctors appointment. No ultrasound this time, but we did get to have a Doppler done. When doctor put the machine to my stomach we heard the heartbeat instantly! He was a little surprised, and told us our baby is not shy at all! I think that means he is already taking after his dad ;) The doctor said he thinks it's a boy, and we kind of do too, but then again we will be excited either way! We made the next appointment, and we find out the sex on February 27th!!! Two weeks from Monday we will know if we have a little boy or girl in there. I am definitely ready to find out, and let the shopping begin :D

You've Had a Birthday Shout Hooray!

We had a birthday in the house last week... mine! I turned the big 2-3 haha ok so maybe it's not that big, but still. I took the day off from work so I could really enjoy the day. Austin had class most of the day, but all I really wanted to do for my birthday was go shopping! It has been so long since I've had a day/money to just go shopping for fun. Unfortunately, as it always seems to go, I didn't find a whole lot on my 3 hour shopping spree. I find that when I have the money/really want a specific thing I can never find it, but then when I have no money to spend I want everything! I still had a fun time just having the day off work, and trying on all the clothes I wanted to.

Birthday stash-
I realized this weekend that I went a little stripes crazy on my shopping trip.

After my day out, Austin took the night off to hang out with me! I had been craving (or maybe the baby had been craving) Olive Garden for the past week, so that was my birthday dinner choice. Luckily it did not disappoint.
After dinner I was so stuffed I almost passed up on my birthday dessert, but Austin talked me into just getting a cupcake to take home for later. That was a good choice :)
We couldn't decide between two, Oreo and Red Velvet, so we got both :)
It was a very chill, but very enjoyable birthday. I can't believe this will be my last birthday with out a kid! I think I made the most of it! Another year older, and another successful birthday celebrated.

Funny Video

I saw this video and I got a good laugh out of it. I told Austin that if I am being a grump during labor he can feel free to rap to me :)

Changes!

I was reading in one of my books that you should start documenting your pregnancy early so that you can see how much you change over the course of it. Even though people say I'm not showing too much right now, I feel like I am haha. I guess I'm just not use to gaining weight. I have a hard time judging how much weight I should/shouldn't be gaining right now. I find myself constantly judging how big I look compared to other people. It is a bad habit that I am trying to work on cause I know if I keep it up, I will drive myself crazy!

Overall pregnancy so far has been interesting... I guess I always imagined that when you get pregnant you might get sick, and then you gain some weight, and that is about it. Wrong! There are so many changes my body is going though that I would have never imagined! For instance, the fact that I am tired all the time!! I sleep in as long as I can in the mornings, and when I come home from work I just want to go to bed. It doesn't matter that I've slept for like 20 hours, it's just not enough! Or the fact that my adolescent acne is in full force again. Also I feel like I have to eat fiber, and drinking prune juice like a 90-year-old woman just so I can regulate myself (TMI? probably but it's true!). No one ever mentions the other side effects of pregnancy. Although, I think I would take all these changes any day over the morning sickness horror stories I hear. Yes I have to deal with the nausea somedays but no where near the extent that most women deal. It really has been a new, and fun journey so far! I know that this is where Austin & I are suppose to be in life right now, and it is reassuring as I deal with these changes. Next week we go for another doctor appointment, and get to hear the heart beat which is exciting! :D Until then...

Positive.

I guess it is finally time to start blogging about being pregnant! There were some big things that have been happening over the past two months that I really wanted to share on this blog, but knew I couldn't. What better way to start off the new year than to announce our pregnancy!

Monday night, November 28th Austin talked me into taking a pregnancy test. We waited the long five minute wait before checking, and what we saw was one solid pink line and another faint one. I didn't really know what this meant? I had been taking ovulation tests, and knew that they said unless there were two distinct pink lines it didn't mean anything. Well apparently a pregnancy test is a little different than that! Austin wanted to go that night and get another cheap test, but I was done with those dumb pink lines. I just wanted to know for sure. We headed up to Fry's to get one of those Clearblue tests. When we got back I took the test, and before I could get done washing my hands it popped up... pregnant. I squealed and told Austin to go look now! He did and after just stood there smiling. I guess it was true this time, we were going to be parents!

We decided that I should probably tell my mom just so that I had someone to talk to about this and ask questions to, but we weren't going to tell anyone else until Christmas. Yeah that lasted a whole two days. I told my mom the next day, but then Austin decided he had to tell his whole family. I think if I hadn't threatened him a few times he would have told the whole world that week! Instead he did a decent job keeping his poker face on haha. We made our first appointment for December 21st, and wanted to wait to surprise my sisters when they came out after Christmas. I guess this was the beginning of a long nine month journey for us!

Rewind.

Now I guess I will rewind a little bit and add some more things to the past month. It was a long three weeks waiting to go to the doctors! We were both so excited when that day came. I think we were more excited for the 21st than we were for the 25th! As we sat in the waiting room at the doctors office, we kept looking at the door every time it opened waiting to see someone we knew. The doctor I picked shares an office with the doctor that everyone around here goes to! We were sure with our luck, one of our pregnant friends would have an appointment that day too and see us waiting in there for our ultrasound. Luckily we saw no one! Austin said sitting in that waiting room felt like forever! I would agree with that. When we finally made it back to have our ultrasound done, we saw a small white dot on the screen. That was our baby!! It didn't look much like a baby though haha. The tech said we weren't as far along as we thought, only about six and a half weeks. I don't think I would have believed that was our baby until I saw the heart beating on the screen. Then it all became real! Austin was pointing out everything before the tech could even tell us! I guess all this med school is paying off haha.
The doctor confirmed that we were indeed pregnant, but wanted to see me back in two weeks to do another ultrasound. I was beyond excited, but still had a hard time believing this was real! He also moved back my due date to August 13th, 2012. Austin was really excited to hear this because that is the same day Cassie was born!! I know it is highly unlikely to have your baby on the actual due date, but the fact that our baby shares the same potential birthday with Cassie was really special news.

A couple of days later my family came out to visit. Like I said before, my parents already knew we were pregnant but my sisters didn't. We decided to wrap up the ultrasounds like a present, and have them open them up. I was so glad we waited to surprise them! Their reactions were priceless!

The initial reactions, trying to figure out what this meant...
They figured it out and were so excited!!
I can definitely say that both sides of the family were so excited for us! The whole time my family was here we just kept talking about it. Also, I am pretty sure everyone is hoping it's a boy. It would be the first boy grandchild on Austin's side, and the first boy ever on my side! Either way if it's a boy or a girl, we will be so excited and happy.

Two weeks later, it was back to the doctors office. Unfortunately this time Austin couldn't come with me. When I saw our little baby on the screen I couldn't believe how much had changed in two weeks! It actually looked like a baby and not just some dot on the screen! This time I was really freaking out inside  because I was so happy and felt so blessed that this was real! The doctor said everything continued to look good and that we could start telling people if we wanted to :)

After that, we started telling extended family members and then our friends! For girls group, I made these baby cupcakes I found on Pinterest. I think they were pleasantly surprised to hear the news!
I am so glad the news is finally out! I didn't think we were going to be able to keep that secret much longer! Also, this last picture is for my sister Lexi. When we first told them we were pregnant, she said I needed to take a picture with a Prego sauce and then announce that I was pregnant that way! When I was at a store the other day I found a baby Prego sauce and took a picture with it! haha so there you go... I'm Prego!! haha
I can't wait to see what the next seven months hold in store for us!! Starting tomorrow I will be 10 weeks along, and I know for sure there will be lots more posts documenting the progress :D
